What is AMSA?
AMSA stands for American Medical Student Association. There are numerous medical school and pre-med AMSA chapters throughout the country (i.e. Berkeley AMSA, UCSD AMSA, etc.)

How can I join and what can I expect as a member?
For UCD AMSA membership, please refer to the membership page of our website.

Not only does AMSA offer an family-like atmosphere of like-minded people and various service opportunities, but it also enhances your pre-medical experience here at UC Davis through our programs.

How often are the General Meetings?
We usually have about 3 general meetings per quarter on different days to accommodate time conflicts for students. Check the events page to find out when the next general meeting will occur!

Do I have to first attend a General Meeting before attending the other AMSA events?
No, there is no particular order in events in which you have to attend.   Just make sure by the end of the quarter you've attended at least one of our four different types of events (general meeting, social, special, and community service events).

Does AMSA have any fun activities for its members?
Yes! We have social activities throughout the quarter where members can come, enjoy and interact with the board members, such as movie nights, bowling, and more!

What are the leadership opportunities available to me?
You can become a board member, who are elected annually, or you can apply for a committee leader position which are available quarterly.  You can also apply for the mentorship program.

What is the difference between a paid member and an active member?
To be a paid member, you are only required to pay the annual due of $20. However, to be an active member, you must also complete the quarterly requirements listed below.

What is an active member?
In addition to the membership fee, an active member must accumulate a minimum of 4 points per quarter by attending:
- 1 General Meeting
- 1 Fundrasing Event
- 1 Community Service Event
The more events you attend, the more points you can earn.  Active members will be given
priority to exclusive events such as suture clinics, medical school tours, and much more.  At the end of the school year, the top 10 active members with the most cumulative points will be invited to our Dinner with Doctors.

Can I still join AMSA during the Winter or Spring quarter?
Yes, we accept people throughout the school year. Come join our general meetings for free!

What is the difference between AMSA here at Davis and the National AMSA?
The UC Davis Pre-med AMSA is a local chapter of a national organization, the American Medical Students Association (AMSA). National, AMSA is composed of over 68,000 members with chapters in all medical schools and most undergraduate universities. For more information on AMSA, please visit www.amsa.org.

Could I be a part of UCD AMSA and National AMSA?
Certainly, you may choose to join AMSA at UCD, National AMSA or both.
To join national AMSA, please visit www.amsa.org.
